PokéDefense Hoenn eggs, shiny odds and weather guide
Hoenn is playable: choose its regional eggs, learn its new terrain and calculate shiny chances from the current 2% / 3% / 5% bases plus your progress bonus.

Choose Hoenn before hatching
Hoenn launched on October 26 with 135 Gen 3 Pokémon, eight maps and eight Story chapters. It is no longer only a silhouette preview.
- Open Egg Shop & Collection, select Hoenn, then choose an egg tier. Selecting Kanto or Johto keeps that region’s pool; buying a higher tier does not change the region.
- The Hoenn Story starts with Treecko, Torchic or Mudkip and continues through its own eight chapters. Open that Story region to follow its progress.
- The eight maps are Route 101, Petalburg Woods, Route 119, Meteor Falls, Route 111 Desert, Sky Pillar, Groudon’s Crater and Kyogre’s Deep.
Use terrain and legendary weather deliberately
Inspect the map and the Pokémon’s current form before placing it. High ground, open sky, water and lava are different placement conditions.
- On Sky Pillar, Flying types over the open sky get +20% range and +15% damage. Put Charmander or Magikarp on land first, evolve into its Flying form, then move it out.
- Groudon’s Desolate Land boosts Fire and Ground attacks by 30% and weakens Water and Grass by 15%. Kyogre’s Primordial Sea boosts Water and Grass by 30%, weakens Fire and Ground by 15%, and slows other attack types by 10%.
- Their weather lasts while a relevant legendary remains placed. Selling or recalling it restores another placed legendary’s weather, or your Weather Orb/map weather. Rayquaza and Castform can clear legendary weather.
Read the three base shiny chances
The egg’s rarity roll and its shiny roll are separate. A legendary rarity chance is not the chance of one specific legendary or a shiny legendary.
- Poké Egg: 150 Poké Coins, 2% base shiny chance. Great Egg: 400 coins, 3%. Ultra Egg: 1,000 coins, 5%.
- Your final shiny chance is the egg’s base chance × (1 + progress bonus). If the game shows +50%, the three chances become 3%, 4.5% and 7.5%; it does not add 50 percentage points.
- Check the bonus tooltip in the original Egg Shop before buying. Changing region changes eligible Pokémon; changing tier changes rarity odds and the base shiny chance.
Count progress and duplicate protection correctly
Progress raises shiny odds, while regional rarity pity helps you find missing collection lines. These answer different collection problems.
- The bonus adds +5% for all Story chapters, +5% for all Classic maps and +10% for all Hardcore maps. Best Endless wave ÷ 10 and owned collection lines ÷ 10 each add their nearest whole-number percentage; count owned lines, not every evolved species.
- Duplicate pity is tracked separately for each region and rarity, across that region’s egg tiers. Duplicates need not be consecutive. Once the count reaches that rarity’s regional pool size, the next roll of that rarity gives a missing line if one remains; only the forced new line resets the count.
- A shiny already owned as shiny can be redirected to another non-shiny line of the same rarity. This protection does not raise the shiny roll itself, and rarity pity does not guarantee that the next egg rolls legendary.
Keep current rules and older calculations distinct
Use these November 2 v288 facts when choosing eggs and reading the current game. Sinnoh is still marked as test-server content, so its loaded files are not proof of a live fourth region.
- The linked v164 egg planner keeps Kanto/Johto pools and the earlier shiny model. Its fixed-state estimates do not include the new Hoenn pool, progress bonus or current pity; do not treat them as v288 results.
- Use the regional selector and bonus shown in the original Egg Shop for a current purchase. The linked collection, Story and weather guides remain useful with their displayed version boundaries.
